Wine Fair – Vinistra 10.-12.05.2024

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the wine fair Vinistra

It will be held at the Žatika Hall in Poreč, Istria. Vinistra stands as the region’s most significant wine event, attracting wine lovers from far and wide. Taking place from May 10th to May 12th, 2024, the fair celebrates Istria’s rich winemaking heritage.

Nestled in the southeastern corner of Europe, Istria shares geographical similarities with renowned wine regions such as Italy, France, and Spain, boasting a history of winemaking that stretches back centuries. At Vinistra, over 120 members of the winemakers‘ association showcase their wines, spirits, and olive oils to a global audience eager to explore Istria’s vinicultural treasures.

Traditions

Istrian winemakers specialize in cultivating local varieties, with the white Istrian Malvasia and the red Teran taking center stage. However, the region also produces a range of other varietals in smaller quantities, including experimental vintages of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Burgundy, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc, highlighting the diversity and potential of Istrian terroir.

Malvasia Istriana reigns as the Istrian eno-icon, representing nearly 70% of the region’s production and earning recognition as Croatia’s most beloved white wine. With its full body and luscious fruity notes, Istrian Malvasia tantalizes the palate with hints of honey, lemon peel, pear, and a nutty, slightly bitter finish.

Teran, another indigenous Istrian variety, captivates enthusiasts with its wild herbal aromas and velvety smoothness. Offering a medium to full-bodied experience, Teran delights with aromas of red fruits such as sour cherries, sweet cherries, and blackberries, complemented by medium and pleasant tannins. At Vinistra, attendees have the opportunity to savor these iconic Istrian wines and explore the region’s vinicultural treasures firsthand.
