Acquisition of majority stake lays foundation for further expansion
DER Touristik has just made another major investment in its growing hotel business and increased its holdings in the market for land-based travel. The hotel division of the DER Touristik Group, DER Touristik Hotel & Resorts GmbH (Cologne), has acquired a majority stake in DR Hospitality GmbH & Co. KG, a company based in the northeastern German city of Rostock. DR Hospitality GmbH & Co. KG, which was founded in 2021 as an equal joint venture with Deutsche Seereederei (DSR), will thus become part of DER Touristik Group.
The acquisition also underscores the strong position and ambition that the DER Touristik Group has in the German-speaking holiday hotel industry and the market for land-based travel. “We think that holiday destinations that customers can reach by train and car will become even more popular in the future,” said Dr Ingo Burmester, the CEO Central Europe DER Touristik Group. “This step lays the foundation for further growth. Together with Deutsche Seereederei, we are determined to seize more opportunities in the market.”
As a medium-sized company, the DSR Group sees great opportunities in the land-based travel market with its strong partner DER Touristik. Horst Rahe, Managing Partner of DSR, emphasises: “We are also convinced that the market for land-based travel will continue to grow and that this partnership will secure further first-class locations.”
With DSR Hotel Holding, DR Hospitality is successfully active as a hotel management company in Germany, Austria – and since 2023 also in Italy – and currently employs over 1,800 people. The company operates and markets a high-quality hotel portfolio that comprises both growth-driven hotel and resort brands as well as individual hotels steeped in tradition.
These facilities include 22 hotels and resorts of the brands A-ROSA, aja, HENRI HOTELS, Hotel Louis C. Jacob, MIRA Hotels and Hotel Neptun.
The acquisition of the majority stake represents the next bold step in DER Touristik’s strategy, a plan of action that is based on sustainable growth, individuality and quality. “One key pillar in our hotel strategy is our focus on quality,” Ingo Burmester said. “By integrating DSR Hotel Holding even more tighter into our hotel division, we can uniformly apply our quality standards throughout the entire portfolio and roll out innovations throughout the entire division. In addition, the hotels and brands of DSR Hotel Holding will move closer to our wide sales network.”
The DER Touristik Group is the travel and tour operator unit of the REWE Group and is one of Europe’s leading travel companies. The hotel business is one of the company’s strategic growth fields and has been bundled in the DER Touristik Group Hotel Division since 2021. The portfolio of the DER Touristik Hotel Division comprises 10 brands and more than 100 hotels in 14 countries around the world.
